Athlete of the Month: Susanne Brothers
Athlete of the Month
There is that one athlete on a team or in a community that is the hardest working, most supportive, brings the energy up, and inspires and motivates everyone. That same athlete is the one who if they are gone from your class you will notice it, and if they are in your class you light up and knowing you will bring your best and most likely push past your comfort zone. At CrossFit Wilsonville we are so fortunate to have that athlete and her name is Susanne Brothers. This lady is the life of the party and the MVP in our community. Congratulations to our June athlete of the month, Susanne Brothers.
What were you doing before CrossFit Wilsonville? I had a gym membership I hardly used, and I would occasionally go on walks. I primarily put everyone else ahead of my health. I’ve definitely found a good balance now.
What kind of animal would you consider yourself during a WOD? When I first started Crossfit, I would imagine I looked like a deer in headlights. Just taking it all in and trying to learn the lingo and moves. I’m still learning the ropes.
What is your most favorite or least favorite movement? I love the power snatch. I’m able to do it with one hand, and I don’t have to modify it with a dumbbell. A fellow athlete help me find my sweet spot!
What is your pre or post WOD routine? I usually workout at 9am, so a cup of coffee is a must with a good poop afterwards. Yup, I said it!
What is your biggest accomplishment since starting CrossFit? I just want to fit in with all the other athletes. I ask for help when I need it, but overall I feel like I’m part of this community without anyone feeling sorry for me.
What is your favorite WOD? I like to challenge my cardio. So, anything with running or burpees is secretly ok with me.
What is your favorite motivational quote? “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” Neale Donald Walsch
What is some advise you'd give to someone new to CrossFit? Embrace this community. It’s life-changing. You’re not alone. There are athletes of all levels and ages in Crossfit. You’ll have good and bad days. Pace yourself and stop competing with everyone else. Lastly, you’ll always be sore. Always.
